BENGALURU: An electrical shop owner was arrested on Saturday for setting his shop and godown on fire to avail of insuran ce.

on BVK Iyengar Road were gutted.

Choudhary

called the fire department at 5am to alertthem. Ten fire tenders fought the blaze for five hours before dousing the fire. While his friend Gajendra R died, worker Arun Kumar has been admitted to Victoria Hospital.

Choudhary has been booked under various sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder). DCP (west) MN

Anucheth

said Choudhary, who had a loan of Rs 1.6 crore, hatched a plot with his friend Gajendra. Choudhary recently insured his shop for Rs 1.8 crore. Choudhary, Arun and Gajendra placed highly inflammable material and set the shop on fire. However, the plan proved fatal for Gajendra as he got stuck in the godown, police said.
