The dams, especially the ones which are located on the Cauvery basin in Karnataka, are brimming with water in the third week of July. After facing drought for consecutive years, Karnataka has received bountiful rainfall this year, which has brought huge inflow of water into various dams, which are now attracting visitors during the weekends. Here’s a list of the major reservoirs in the state that can make interesting monsoon escapades over the weekend.

Krishna Raja Sagara Dam
The KRS reservoir located at Srirangapatna, which has reached its fullest capacity, is now releasing water to Tamil Nadu. The dam is a major source of drinking water for the people of Mysuru and Bengaluru.

Kabini Dam


A popular tourist destination, this dam gets water from the Kapila river, a tributary of river Cauvery, which originates in Wayanad, Kerala.

Harangi Dam


Located at Somwarpet, Kodagu, this dam has reached the fullest capacity following heavy rainfall in Kodagu. It is a popular tourist attraction in the area.

Almatti Dam


Situated in Vijayapura, this dam provides water to the Vijayapura and Bagalkote districts in Karnataka. It has been constructed across the Krishna river.

Tunga Bhadra Dam


The dam which is getting good inflow is expected to fill up in the next few days. It is constructed across Tunga Bhadra river and is located at Hosapete, Ballari.
