Noronha gets Mystics past Tigers

Bengaluru: Young Macneil Noronha's all-round show (2/15 & 65 n.o) powered Gulbarga Mystics past table-toppers Hubli Tigers in the KSCA Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here on Wednesday.The 21-year-old off-spinner bagged two wickets for 15 runs to help restrict the Tigers to 164/6 before combining with left-handed batter R Smaran (56) to overhaul the target with eight balls to spare.The youngsters were involved in a 110-run partnership for the third wicket. Noronha's 50-ball unbeaten run was highlighted by six fours and two maximums while 20-year-old Smaran turned in a 38-ball 56 with four boundaries and two sixes. With the win, Mystics, with eight points, took a step closer to a knockouts berth.Monish, Lankesh shineOn a day when youngsters impressed, Mysuru Warriors' pacer Monish Reddy (3/42) and Lankesh (68 n.o; 45b; 4x4; 6x6) led their team to a comfortable seven-wicket win over Mangaluru Dragons.Credit to the Warriors bowlers, who barring Monish choked the Dragons' batters. Seasoned spinner J Suchith returned an impressive 2/24. For Dragons, barring opener Rohan Patil (52; 42b; 3x4; 3x6) none of the others in the batting line-up passed muster.In reply, Warriors lost the openers early but skipper Karun Nair (43) and Lankesh ensured it was smooth sailing.
