Sheshamma of Eechalahole developed health issues and people were forced to carry her in a bedsheet for 500 metres as there is no road to the village. The woman was taken in a makeshift stretcher till Kelakodu. Later, she was taken in a vehicle to Kalasa.

Sheshamma's daughter Poornima is a Samse GP member. The village has no road connectivity as it comes under Kudremukh National Park, which is hilly. As many as 10 families belonging to Malekudiya, a tribe, live in the village. They complained they are deprived of basic facilities. Despite several pleas, the authorities have failed to provide needed facilities, said Samse GP president Ravi Kumar.

Former minister CT Ravi had held a meeting in Kalasa two years ago and assured of taking necessary measures. Ravi had urged forest department officials to allow works in the region, but nothing has happened, he said, adding forest department officials do not allow any work in the village.

"This is not the first time such an incident has been reported. Last year too, we carried a woman in the same way," said Ramesh, a villager.
