The injured husband is 37-year-old Kiran (name changed), a private firm employee. His wife is 35-year-old Sandhya (name changed).

Kiran told police at 1.30am on Feb 27, Sandhya took a kitchen knife and stabbed him on his hand when he was sleeping. Shocked, he managed to push her away before she could injure him further. Later, with the help of neighbours, he went to a private hospital to treat his hand injury.

Since it was a stab injury, doctors sent a medico-legal case report to police.

A senior officer said: "The case was registered against Sandhya on March 1 and she was questioned. Since it is a family matter, we have given the couple time to discuss the issue and get back to us. During investigation, we learnt that Kiran couldn't buy her a gift a day before their wedding anniversary because of his grandfather's death. She was disturbed as it was the first time he hadn't given her a gift. Kiran told us his wife was disturbed over some personal issues and he wanted her to undergo counselling."
