The NMIMS social media policy, which is applicable to all its campuses across India, aims to prepare its students for professional and ethical social media use.

The policy emphasises accuracy, respect for intellectual property, digital permanence, and many other aspects.

The policy requires students to credit all external sources accurately and avoid using copyrighted materials without permission.

It also instructs students to avoid creating accounts or posts that could be mistaken for official NMIMS channels and not to disclose internal information or share academic content without authorisation.

The policy also highlights zero tolerance for bullying, mindful use of university networks, confidentiality, account responsibility, and legal compliance.

Dr Narayani Ramachandran, Director of NMIMS Bengaluru campus, said, “The policy has cultivated a culture of accountability where students and staff understand the impact of their online actions. This awareness likely reduced instances of defamation, unauthorised content sharing, and hostile language online by ensuring that university-related posts are accurate, professional, and respectful.”

The policy also provides for disciplinary committees for addressing non-compliance. Student-related issues will be handled by the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC), while staff matters will fall under a special committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor. The policy also mandates confidentiality throughout proceedings to ensure fairness and transparency.
