BENGALURU: Top seeds Nicholas Nathan Raj and Tushar Suveer of Karnataka clinched the U-19 boys doubles title at the all-India junior ranking badminton tournament in Chandigarh on Sunday.

In the final, Nicholas and Suveer, who train at the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, got the better of Bharath Sanjai S and Aswath Harrish SP of Tamil Nadu 21-17, 21-17 in 30 minutes.

In the semifinals, the Karnataka duo defeated qualifiers Abhinay Sairam Ganta and Lokesh Parasa of Telangana 21-18, 21-14 in 29 minutes.

Meanwhile, Karnataka shuttlers won both the singles titles at the all-India sub-junior (U-13) ranking tournament in Kolkata. Top seed Sai Pushkar of Selenite eased past second seed Swayamdyuti Ghosh of West Bengal 21-9, 21-5 in the boys’ singles final while Shaina Manimuthu, who too was top-seeded, downed second Avni Vikram Govind (Telangana) 21-10, 21-12 in the girls’ title match.

In the semifinals, Pushkar weathered a stiff challenge from seventh seed Prakhar Tiwari of Uttar Pradesh in the first game before prevailing 21-19, 21-8. Shaina routed third seed Hamsini Chadaram of Telangana 21-10, 21-10.
