BANGALORE: For all those employed youth who find trade unions too politicised or outdated, there is a new option now. The Union Network International, the global union for skills and services, launched a new forum for the youth working in 13 private sector firms on August 12, the International Youth Day.
The forum, named as New Generation Network (NgN), was launched by Philip Bowyer, UNI deputy general secretary.
It will serve as a platform for the youth to interact with other people in the same sectors like telecom, finance, logistics, retail, IT and ITES sectors. "The youth wing of many organizations are dying down. The new recruits and the others do not have a common networking site. That is where we come in," said N R Hegde, director, UNIDOC, Bangalore.
The members will involve themselves in workshops and nation building programmes. They will get to discuss their concerns and interests with like-minded people. There is also an opportunity to hunt for new jobs in the forum.
A minimum of 600 people are expected to join the forum. A calender will soon be put up containing the programmes of the forum.
