Murthy is E&Y entrepreneur of the year

BANGALORE: The chips were up at the E&Y awards this year -- with their distinct silicon flavour. N.R. Narayana Murthy, chairman and chief mentor of Infosys Technologies, won the Ernst & Young entrepreneur of the year award, staving off a stiff challenge from other industry bigwigs.

BANGALORE: The chips were up at the E&Y awards this year -- with their distinct silicon flavour. N.R. Narayana Murthy, chairman and chief mentor of Infosys Technologies, won the Ernst & Young entrepreneur of the year award, staving off a stiff challenge from other industry bigwigs.
Narayana Murthy will thus represent India at the Ernst & Young world entrepreneur of the year award ceremony at Monte Carlo, Monaco, in June 2003.

Founder of MRF, K.M. Mammen Mappillai, has been chosen for the lifetime achievement award, while US-returned cardiologist Naresh Trehan who has founded the Escorts Heart Institute has won the award in the services category. The award for manufacturing went to Ratul Puri of Moser Baer, and Premod Bhasin of GE Capital India won the manager entrepreneur of the year award.
Rajesh Hukku of i-flex solutions received the award in the information technology, communications and entertainment segment and Biocon India''s Kiran Mazumdar Shaw bagged the healthcare and life sciences award. The start-up entrepreneur of the year award went to Sanjeev Aggrawal of Daksh eServices.
The awards were presented in Bangalore on Thursday.
