BANGALORE: Elected representatives should stop interfering in the decision-making process in urban local bodies, which requires a constitutional amendment __ this opnion emerged during an interactive session organized by Civic in Bangalore on Wednesday.
Many participants, including members of members of various city corporations and town municipalities, raised the issue of MLAs and MPs meddling with decision-making in urban local bodies.
Adviser to chief minister on urban affairs A Ravindra suggested that the urban local body members should get hold of MLAs during assembly polls and make them give more power to local bodies.
Role of women in local bodies were also discussed in the session.
Latha Rajashekar of Gundlupet town municipality said that though women representatives are entering local bodies in large number, there are always hindrances when it comes to powers given to them.
