MP Surya to wed Carnatic singer Sivasri on March 9
Bengaluru: Politics and music are set to unite in Bengaluru as BJP MP Tejasvi Surya prepares to tie the knot with renowned Carnatic singer Sivasri Skandaprasad on March 9. The wedding will take place at Palace Grounds in a traditional ceremony, blending Kannada and Tamil rituals.
The couple's journey began at a concert in Chennai, where Surya was among the many admirers of Sivasri's music. A family source revealed that their bond deepened over time. "During his campaign in 2022, he attended one of her performances, and that moment changed everything. What started as conversations about music soon turned into something deeper—they discovered a shared perspective on life, and before we knew it, they had fallen in love," the source said.
Surya, a two-time Lok Sabha MP from Bengaluru South and the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), recently got engaged to Sivasri who hails from Chennai. A trained Carnatic musician and Bharatanatyam artist, Sivasri holds a degree in bio-engineering from Sastra University but chose to pursue a career in arts. She also has a Bharatanatyam degree from the University of Madras. She has over 1 lakh Instagram followers and more than 2 lakh YouTube subscribers.
Her musical talents have received national recognition, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi praising her devotional Kannada rendition ahead of the Ram Temple consecration in Ayodhya. "This rendition by Sivasri Skandaprasad in Kannada beautifully highlights the spirit of devotion to Prabhu Shri Ram. Such efforts go a long way in preserving our rich cultural heritage," Modi posted on X. Skandaprasad called the recognition an "honour beyond imagination."
"The wedding will be a simple Karnataka-style ceremony with some Tamil rituals, without VVIPs in attendance," the family source said.
