BANGALORE: Did you promise your daughter a gearless scooty once the SSLC results were out? It won't serve much of a purpose though, if she plans to join Mount Carmel College.
Similar to the year before, pre-university students have not been allowed to park their two-wheelers or cars inside the campus. Reason? The college is of the opinion that PU students are not mature enough.

But, there is hope yet. This year, the college has an alternative. They have tied up with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to provide special buses on at least five routes for their students.
"When students commence college, they are 15-years-old or so. They're fresh out of school. We think they're too young to handle vehicles and drive considering the terrible traffic conditions in the city. Most of them don't wear helmets.
Moreover, having a vehicle gives students a sense of unbridled freedom, at times, with disastrous results," says MCC senior faculty member, Elizabeth Jose. MCC had introduced the parking ban last year. They tried to negotiate with BMTC for college buses.
But the deal fell through due to administrative delays. This year, there don't seem to be any hiccups. MCC is the first college to approach the BMTC to provide dedicated buses for their students.

"We are yet to finalise the exact routes or a tariff plan with MCC," say BMTC officials. BMTC will charge Rs 15 per km and either a ticket or student pass structure will be worked out at the meeting between BMTC officials and college authorities.
So while applying for an admission at MCC, applicants should check not just the cut-off rates, but also watch out if there's a bus that covers the area they live in.
