BANGALORE: In a gruesome incident, a mother and her lover killed an 8-year-old girl after she saw them in a compromising position.
The murder happened on Nov. 18 at Talaghattapura, and the police arrested the girl's mother Sarita, 25, and her paramour Shivu, 25. Police recently recovered the body of Tanushree, which had been thrown into Iggalur reservoir near Chennapattana.
According to Talaghattapura inspector Mahadev, the two lovers took the child to the reservoir, strangled her, tied a boulder to the body and dumped it into the reservoir.
Sarita had married lorry driver Gopal, who was out of town a lot. They had rented a house at Talaghattapura and had one daughter, Tanushree. The landlord's son Shivu had an affair with Sarita for over two years. On Nov. 18, Tanushree came home early from school. She found her mother and Shivu in bed. Fearful of Tanushree telling others about it, they decided to silence her.
The same evening, Sarita took Tanushree to Iggalur reservoir near Chennapattana, saying they were going on a picnic. They killed her and when Sarita returned home, she lodged a complaint with the police saying her daughter was missing. After a few days, Shivu's father also lodged a complaint that his son was missing. The police started tracking Shivu's friends and found Shivu in Shimoga. When they caught him, Shivu spilled the beans about the murder. Shivu and Sarita have been remanded to judicial custody.
