MLA Ganesh arrested from Gujarat hotel

BENGALURU: On the run for a month after allegedly attacking and attempting to murder a lawmaker colleague, Congress MLA from Kampli, JN Ganesh, was arrested from a hotel in Somnath in Gujarat on Wednesday afternoon.

, where the Congress had corralled its lawmakers on the night of January 20. A severely injured Anand Singh had been rushed to a Bengaluru hospital in the early hours of January 21.


Will be flown to Bengaluru today

Ramanagara superintendent of police Ramesh Banoth said they arrested Ganesh from the Somnath hotel around 2pm. “He will be flown to Bengaluru on Thursday morning and then to Ramanagara,” he said. On Tuesday, Ganesh had withdrawn his advance bail petition filed in a Ramanagara court.

A senior police officer, who was part of the 17-member team formed to nab Ganesh, said, “After the arrest, we produced him before a local court and availed transit custody as well as police custody. We have to produce him before the Ramanagara court by Thursday evening.”

A criminal complaint for attempt to murder was registered against Ganesh on January 21 based on the statement given by Anand Singh, who alleged that Ganesh bashed him up, injuring his eyes and jaws around 1am.
