Metro security officials get notice over traveller’s death
Bengaluru: Byappanahalli police investigating the case of death of a passenger, who collapsed on a Namma Metro train, have issued notices to security officials of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL).
Thimmegowda, 67, a resident of Banjara Layout in Kalkere near Horamavu, had collapsed while on the way from Byappanahalli to Kengeri. He was heading to Chamarajanagar.
According to the complaint filed by Thimmegowda’s son Muthuraj T, a police inspector attached with BDA, he received a call from his brother at 10.27am on July 20 informing about their father’s condition. When Muthuraj called his father’s mobile, a woman attended the call. He requested her to take her father to hospital. Thimmegowda died at a hospital on Infantry Road at 11.50am.
According to the passengers who rushed Thimmegowda to the hospital, he collapsed when the train left Swami Vivekananda Metro station. They were helpless till the train reached MG Road station. Thimmegowda was left unattended by the Metro staff for 15 minutes despite being informed about his condition. The passengers brought Thimmegowda out of the station. Since the Metro staff didn’t arrange for an ambulance, they took him in an auto at 11am and reached the hospital at 11.15am.
Muthuraj filed a case against the Metro officials alleging negligence in attending to his father. A police officer said a case under IPC section 304 A – negligence causing the death was registered against BMRCL staff and officers on Monday. tnn
