Many celebrities may skip Reddy's daughter's wedding

BENGALURU: In these demonetized times, many celebrities and VIP invitees are expected to keep off the lavish wedding of the daughter of mining czar and former BJP minister G Janardhana Reddy at Bengaluru Palace on November 16.
Health and family welfare minister KR Ramesh Kumar was the first to officially announce he would not attend the wedding as it was a “public display of wealth''. Kumar had piloted a private member's bill to check lavish spending at weddings. While there is no confirmation about chief minister Siddaramaiah attending the event, he told reporters in Belagavi on Friday it was for the incometax department to check the source of funds spent on lavish weddings.

Agriculture minister Krishna Byre Gowda, whose marriage was a low-key affair, was very clear about his stand. “I thank Reddy for not inviting me to the wedding. I'm blessed and glad to have missed being on his radar.While I wish the couple the best, marriages are not about lavishness, but of two minds coming together,'' he said.

Janardhana Reddy's brother G Somashekar Reddy , who has been supervising the arrangements, particularly distribution of cards to VIPs, said Union minister Nitin Gadkari had confirmed his attendance, while former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda will be there the previous day .

Meanwhile, Reddy and his family arrived in Bengaluru by a special flight from Ballari on Saturday . The wedding will be a two-day affair with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and others performing on November 15, Somashekar Reddy said. Bengaluru Palace has been converted into a mini Ballari town depicting areas like Cowl Bazaar, Dhanappa Beedi (street) with the theme being the Vijayangar kingdom.

The wedding will also see a village coming up: It'll have two houses, one for the bridegroom's family and the other for the bride's.The pathway to the houses will be flanked by bullock carts and other rural trappings. A temple is also being constructed near the village for the couple to perform puja.
