BENGALURU: A man’s marital row prompted his parents and sister to end their lives while he himself has been hospitalized after attempting suicide on the fringes of the city on Monday.
Dodda Maraiah aka Doddegowda, 33, younger son of Venkata Arasappa, 90, and Thayamma, 70, from Bettahalli, off Tumakuru Road, northwest Bengaluru, had married five months ago.
However, the couple was not happy.
Upset over their son’s marital woes, Arasappa and Thayamma consumed poison at their home at 12.30pm on Monday. Alert neighbours rushed the elderly couple to a private hospital where they were declared brought dead.
Doddegowda and his sister Honnamma, 50, were away near Tavarekere, off Magadi Road, west Bengaluru, when they learnt about the incident. The siblings consumed poison and were found writhing in pain at Chandrappa Circle. Passersby rushed them to a nearby hospital. Honnamma was declared brought dead, while Doddegowda is under treatment.
Honnamma, a widow, lived with her parents.
