SHIVAMOGGA: A three-member team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing terror-linked cases in Karnataka arrived in Shivamogga on Saturday to probe the role of Mohammed Shariq and his aides, who allegedly have affiliation with or sympathetic to Islamic State (IS).
Recently, NIA took over the probe into the Mangaluru blast case in which a cooker being carried by a passenger in an auto suddenly exploded, leaving the driver and passenger severely injured. Shariq is said to be a key suspect in the case. The NIA team, which includes technical experts, visited Shivamogga Rural police station as part of its broad-sweep investigations into terror-related activities in the state.
The officers met local investigators led by deputy SP Shanthaveeraiah, who had questioned Shariq, Maaz Muneer and Mohammad Yasin in another case. The trio is facing a case of destroying the Tricolour. Sources claimed the team will visit Purle Gurupura, where the accused allegedly carried out trial blasts, and Shariq's hometown.
