Man slashes woman's face for rejecting proposal

BENGALURU: A 24-year-old woman was attacked with a razor blade by her relative after she refused to accept his marriage proposal on Wednesday. The incident happened near a supermarket at Subbanna Garden in Vijayanagar.
The victim, Ranga Lakshmi, a native of Chitradurga, is an employee of a private firm here. On Wednesday, Neelakanta, who is absconding, allegedly took Lakshmi to a supermarket saying his family wanted to talk her.He then attacked her, police said. Neelakanda has been harassing Lakshmi for the past few years. Lakshmi who had married Madhu, a farmer from Hosadurga, four years ago, got separated a year ago. Recently, she got a job in the city and moved to a rented house in Subbanna Garden. Though Lakshmi and her family declined Neelakanta's proposals many times, he continued to call her pestering her to marry him, police said.
On Wednesday at 8pm, while Lakshmi was on her way home after work, Neelakanta waylaid her. He asked her to mar ry him but she declined. He then told her that his relatives were waiting near the supermarket to talk to her. When he asked her to tell his family directly that she doesn't want to marry him, she obliged. But when they reached the spot, he took a razor blade and slashed her face thrice and fled. Lakshmi is recovering.
