Bengaluru shocker: Man beaten to death with baseball bat by son over property dispute
BENGALURU: A 70-year-old man who was attacked allegedly by his son with a baseball bat over a property dispute died while undergoing treatment in a hospital Tuesday morning.
The victim, Munikrishna, a resident of Doopanahalli in Indiranagar, was a retired BMTC conductor. The accused are his elder son, Mohan Kumar, and younger one, Gajendra.
The assault happened between 10.15pm and 10.30pm on Feb 14. Indiranagar police arrested Mohan on attempt-to-murder charges and later converted it into a murder case following Munikrishna's death.
Cops said Munikrishna was attacked near Muthyalamma temple in Doopanahalli when he took his pet dog for a walk after dinner.
Munikrishna's younger daughter-in-law, Divya A, 32, told police she and her husband, Gajendra, lived with him on the first floor of a four-storey building, while Mohan resided with his family on the third floor.
According to Divya's complaint, Munikrishna left home for a walk. She received a phone call from security guard, Kiran, at 10.30pm, saying Munikrishna was attacked by his sons, Mohan and Gajendra, near the temple, and he had collapsed on the road. She alleged that both Mohan and Gajendra assaulted Munikrishna with the baseball bat.
Deputy commissioner of police (east) Vikram Amate said Mohan was arrested and the attack was over a property dispute. "We received the death memo from the hospital Tuesday morning, and the case has been converted into that of murder."
A senior police officer said Munikrishna owned three buildings in and around Indiranagar and land in Bagepalli. He made a will, leaving the land to his wife, Manjula. He also gave property to Mohan's two daughters and a portion of it to Divya.
Mohan and Gajendra were not happy with his decision, police said, adding Gajendra's role in the attack is yet to be ascertained.
