Bengaluru: Plant a sapling to make April cool. To make a beginning, a group of lake volunteers planted five saplings on Friday.
Balaji Raghotam, a lake volunteer, said, “The first day of April is known to us as April Fools’ Day. For the past couple of years, we have been working towards changing that perception. We want to celebrate April Cool Day. We planted a few saplings in Basavapura Lake last year and this time we did so in Bhattarahalli Lake.”
The saplings that were planted on Friday were those of jamun and pongamia which are local to the region.
Summer is not the ideal time to plant saplings; it is done usually after June, “but we carried out the April Cool drive to create awareness among citizens”, Balaji said.
Girinath Reddy, a frequent walker at Bhattarahalli Lake, said it is always a good idea to plant trees in a city where green space is fast disappearing. tnn
