Lokayukta scam accused denied bail

The high court on Tuesday dismissed the bail petition of N Narasimhamurthy , first division assistant working in office of the DG&IG and an accused in the extortion scam involving Y Aswhin, son of Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao.

BENGALURU: The high court on Tuesday dismissed the bail petition of N Narasimhamurthy , first division assistant working in office of the DG&IG and an accused in the extortion scam involving Y Aswhin, son of Lokayukta Justice Y Bhaskar Rao.
“Taking into consideration of the conspiracy hatched by the petitioner (Narasimhamurthy) with others to extort money from officials holding big offices and bringing disrepute to an institution like Lokayukta, this is not a fit case to grant bail,“ said Justice AV Chandrashekara.

Narasimhamurthy , the third accused in the case registered by SIT, has been in judicial custody for the past three months. He was booked under section 384, 420, 506 of IPC and section 8, 9 of the Prevention of Corruption Act . He was arrested after he allegedly accepted Rs 5 lakh from the complainant, Umashankar, then chief engineer of PWD.
HC notice to govts, NHAI
The high court on Tuesday ordered notice to the state and central governments and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in response to a PIL filed by two organizations from Padubidri, Udupi.
The petitioners claimed that the authorities have re aligned the widening of NH-66 based on instructions from former minister Oscar Fernandes which will affect 96 structures comprising educational institutions, temples and commercial buildings on both sides of the highway . They wanted the court to direct the authorities to continue with the widening of the bypass road, as decided earlier.
I haven't favoured anybody: Justice Adi
Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi on Tuesday said he did his job with a clear conscience and dared those who are making allegations to come up with evidence.
Adi told the media that he will quit his office if the charges are proved right. “ I haven't favoured anybody. I have never stood in support of my kin or interfered in any case against anyone in my family. The sudden spurt of allegations from certain quarters has pained me,“ Adi said, reacting to the Congress' move to hold a signature campaign against him.
