As per the earlier circular issued on Saturday, October 1 was the last date for submitting documents, and many farmers associations had claimed that the government was trying to keep most of them out of the loan waiver scheme by asking them to submit documents in one day. This forced the government to extend the deadline till October 15.
The government has waived up to Rs 1 lakh loans availed by farmers, both from cooperative and nationalised banks. While the government has issued an order to waive farm loans from cooperative banks, it is still holding negotiations with nationalised banks.
Chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said loans of all farmers will be waived and there should not be any doubt about it. He also maintained that strict instructions has been given to nationalised banks not to serve loan recovery notices on farmers as the state government is holding talks with managements of banks to finalise details of the loan waiver scheme.
