BENGALURU: BJP MLC CT Ravi on Monday sought governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot's intervention to refer his complaint against Belagavi district police officials to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC).
In his petition, Ravi levelled a serious allegation against police officials that they tried to kill him through a fake encounter on Dec 19, when he was arrested on charges of hurling abusive words on minister Laxmi Hebbalkar in the legislative council.
Ravi met Gehlot at the Raj Bhavan and submitted the petition, a copy which he marked to President Droupadi Murmu.
As he complained against Belagavi police commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang, superintendent of police Bheemashankar S Guled and other junior officers of attempting to kill him, Ravi also sought protection for himself.
"Commissioner of police Iada Martin, SP Bheemashankar S Guled and subordinates lifted and kidnapped me like cattle and carried me to dangerous remote locations...posing threat of encountering me. They targeted and harassed me mentally and physically," Ravi stated in his petition.
Noting that police arrested him despite legislative council chairman Basavaraj Horatti giving him a clean chit, Ravi accused police of trespassing the legislature and breaching his privilege of a legislator. He alleged that police officials have violated the Articles 194 and 21 of the Constitution, those related to the conduct of police officials and the privilege of the legislature.
