BELGAUM: Integrating technology into the classroom has become an imperative for teachers at all levels said Maheshappa, Vice Chancellor, VTU.
After distributing laptops to the teachers at Rani Channamma University, Maheshappa reflected on the role of technology in knowledge creation, mobilization and dissemination and said that the seats of higher learning in the country will soon become redundant if they do not create knowledge and help the creation of a knowledge society.

B R Ananthan, Vice Chancellor, Rani Channamma University who also spoke on the occasion said that the University is planning to provide ubiquitous and secure networks to service the exploding demand for wireless access, provide for critical campus LANs, and build out virtualized data centers.
He said that this will be done in three phases: the first phase networks all the Departments on the campus, the second phase to bring all the colleges in the three districts of Bijapur, Bagalkot and Belgaum under one network and in the third phase the University will enter into MoUs with the institutions of higher learning in the country to create a network which will help the University to share information as well as intellectual property. Expressing his satisfaction for having made the entire campus Wi-Fi-enabled, he urged the teachers to make the best use of technology made available to them.
