K’taka’s golden jubilee yr celebration from Nov 1

Bengaluru: The government has decided to celebrate the golden jubilee year of renaming of Karnataka in a big way from November 1. Various cultural and educational programmes depicting the state’s history and culture will be organised for a year. Kannada and culture minister Shivaraj Tangadagi held a meeting with writers, artists and theatre personalities from Bengaluru division to seek their suggestions on the programmes to be organised. On November 1, 1973, the state was renamed Karnataka; it was earlier known as Mysuru state.“I will hold similar meetings with writers and artists of Belagavi, Mysuru and Kalaburagi divisions too. After collating suggestions from all divisions, the department will chalk out the programmes,” the minister said.In the meeting, it was decided to run a Kannada rath (chariot), which will introduce people to the state’s history, culture and heritage. Other decisions included organising quiz and essay-writing competitions for student and and felicitating those who participated in the Karnataka unification movement. Writers Chandrashekhar Kambar, Prof S Siddaramaiah, BT Lalita Nayak and Narahalli Balakrishna, film personalities Rajendra Singh Babu and TN Seetharam, and Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Mahesh Joshi attended the meeting. tnn
