The accused are Kiran's wife Chaitra, his friend Yashwanth Gowda BA from Maralavadi and his associates Karthik and Tayappa. One more suspect, Annaiah, is at large.
Kiran would usually close his shop at 8.45pm but he did not return home on Friday. On Saturday morning, Tammannaiah filed a complaint with Harohalli police, suspecting the involvement of Yashwanth behind his son's disappearance. Upon interrogation, Yashwanth told police he had an affair with Chaitra and decided to eliminate Kiran to continue the relationship. He sought help from his friends. Chaitra also conspired with the gang.
As planned, they took Kiran to a party and later tied him with a rope. They strangled him to death and took the body to Kottigehalli forest. They dumped the body in a trench, poured diesel and set it on fire before fleeing, police said.
Harohalli police took Yashwanth to the spot and found Kiran's half-burnt body.
