BENGALURU: The Karnataka government issued a warning to officials who alter land records and issue eviction notices to farmers under the Waqf Act. This action follows complaints about land properties being registered in favor of the Karnataka Board of Waqfs.
In a letter, revenue department principal secretary Rajender Kumar Kataria reminded officials that previous directives to change land records have been withdrawn.
"The officials who served reminder-2 despite the chief minister's direction will face appropriate disciplinary action," stated Kataria, emphasising the seriousness of complying with the chief minister's order.
The letter also confirmed that all previously issued eviction notices have been revoked and no action should be taken against farmers currently cultivating the land.
This directive comes amidst upcoming bypolls in three Karnataka assembly segments on November 13.
Farmers in Honwad village and other parts of the state had previously raised concerns over receiving eviction notices due to the Waqf Board claiming rights to their land.
