She reportedly spent the next two days visiting nearby places in Kodagu, stating she was out for sightseeing.A top police officer in Bengaluru confirmed that the tourist was drugged and raped at the Kodagu homestay.On April 15, she travelled to Mysuru, from where she contacted officials at the US embassy. The embassy forwarded the communication to Indian authorities via email, prompting Karnataka police to initiate formal proceedings and begin an investigation.The case has drawn further attention due to allegations that the homestay owner restricted her communication. Police sources said the owner is suspected of disconnecting WiFi access for nearly three days, allegedly limiting her ability to seek immediate help. Officials, however, noted that mobile network connectivity was available within about 1km from the property.CCTV footage reviewed by investigators indicates the woman visited the homestay owner's residence on April 13 during her stay and interacted with his family, including his mother, adding layers of complexity to the probe. Officials said the victim had stayed at the same property earlier in March, raising questions over her decision to return in April.A key point of concern is police and district authorities have not made the first information report public, which typically contains the complainant's account of the alleged incident. The reason for withholding the details has not been officially clarified. Police maintained the inquiry is at a preliminary stage and all angles are being examined.
