Karnataka pacers restrict Gujarat
Bengaluru: Karnataka’s pace unit, including last-match hero Koushik V (4/49) combined well to dismiss Gujarat for 264 on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.Prasidh Krishna, who walked off the field without completing his 15th over due a suspected quadricep injury, and Vyshak Vijaykumar scalped two wickets apiece. The home team should thank middle-order batters Kshitij Patel (95; 161b, 11x4) and Umang Kumar (72; 143, 12x4) for helping them reach a decent score. Seven Gujarat batters fell for single digit scores, showcasing the significance of the duo’s knocks.Gujarat, who were asked to bat first, were in serious trouble at 45/4 after Koushik sent back Het Patel and Sunpreet Bagga. While Kshitij and Umang added 157 runs for the fifth wicket to bring the hosts back into the contest, Vyshak produced a crucial breakthrough, sending back Kshitij in the 63rd over before left-arm spinner Rohit Kumar (2-70) bagged Umang’s wicket.Later, skipper CT Gaja’s (45) 18-run partnership for the ninth wicket with RA Vaghela, followed by 24-run tenth-wicket association with A Nagwaswalla propelled Gujarat past the 250-run mark.SCOREBOARDGujarat (I innings): Priyank Panchal b Vyshak 24, Het Patel c Padikkal b Koushik 4, Sunpreet Bagga lbw Kousik 0, MA Hingrajia c Sateri b Prasidh 4, Kshitij Patel c Sateri b Vyshak 95, Umang Kumar c Padikkal b Rohit Kumar 72, Ripal Patel c Prasidh b Rohit Kumar 0, CT Gaja (not out) 45, SA Desai c Padikkal b Prasidh, 4, RA Vaghela c SS Sateri b Koushik 0, A Nagwaswalla c SJ Nikin Jose b Koushik 6.
