BENGALURU: A BBMP joint health inspector was suspended and four supervisors overseeing the work of pourakarmikas were taken off that duty after a video of these officials demanding and collecting bribes from them went viral on Saturday.
The persons demanding bribes in the video were identified as Lakshmi Havalakonda, joint health inspector, BBMP; PV Varaprakash, Ramachandra, Krishna BJ and Venkatesh. The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) registered a suo motu case against the official and supervisors. "The pourakarmikas are the primary reason our city looks clean in the morning, and taking a commission from them is appalling," said mayor M Goutham Kumar.

. Muniyamma L, a pourakarmika in the ward gets paid Rs 10,000 for her work, of which she was made to cough up Rs 2,000 (20%) as bribe.
