Karnataka floor test live updates: HD Kumarswamy submits resignation to the governor

After losing the trust vote for his 14-month-old Congress-JD(S) alliance government, HD Kumaraswamy has submitted his resignation to Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala. According to opposition leader BS Yeddyurappa, this is a 'victory of democracy'. Stay with TOI for all the latest updates:

JD(S) MLA, AT Ramaswamy walked out of the Vidhana Soudha following state home minister MB Patil's statement on zero traffic reportedly given to rebel MLAs. Ramaswamy had said, "If Home Minister is lying blatantly in front of the House, how can I stay here?"

Congress tells speaker not to put confidence motion to vote till MLAs resignation issue is decided

Congress made a strong plea to the speaker in the Karnataka assembly not to put to vote the confidence motion moved by chief minister HD Kumaraswamy till the chair decides on the resignations to the House submitted by the rebel lawmakers.

Karnataka trust vote: Speaker takes a dig at politics of defection

Karnataka assembly speaker KR Ramesh Kumar took a dig at the politics of defection in Karnataka and quoted former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to buttress the point. "Somebody said to Pandit Nehru that Congress MLAs have become elopers. Nehru said it actually depends on the potency of the person if they are able to take away the person from this site. So, at one point you (Siddaramaiah) were potent and helped them elope. You (Yeddyurappa) don't smile, you also earlier helped in eloping," the speaker said during the debate on the confidence motion in the House.

BK Hariprasad gives notice in Rajya Sabha for suspension of business for discussion over Karnataka crisis

Ahead of the floor test of Congress-JD(S) coalition government, Congress MP BK Hariprasad has given a notice in Rajya Sabha, under rule 267, for suspension of business for discussion over 'constitutional crisis in Karnataka'. "Speaker has already started the procedure of conducting the floor test and the majority will be decided after the test today. As Karnataka governor's tenure has ended, he has become BJP's working president, this is not what governor is supposed to do," Hariprasad said.

"I did not eat any Biryani," Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said in Vidhana Soudha in an apparent reference to his photograph with the prime accused in the multi-crore IMA Ponzi scam, Mansoor Khan, which had gone viral on social media.

Resign and go home, BJP tells Kumaraswamy

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy "to resign and go" if he has faith in the Constitution and people of the state, as the confidence motion moved by him in the assembly dragged on for the third day. The BJP said Kumaraswamy himself moved the confidence motion but the trust process was still prolonging.
