BANGALORE: Battered and rendered unconscious by her jilted lover who later committed suicide, a 24-year-old woman from Kamakshipalya died in Victoria Hospital on Monday.
Police suspect the woman, Ramya G, was a victim of honour killing. She was found injured in a mango grove near Anekal on April 22.Police said Ramya and her jilted lover, Muniraju, 28, belonged to different castes.
“Ramya was an autorickshaw driver’s daughter. She was from a poor family, unlike Muniraju,” said a cop. Police suspect Muniraju was assisted by three brothers in the killing.
While Muniraju hanged himself from the ceiling of his Anekal home, his brothers are on the run.
“Muniraju’s family was against his efforts to woo the girl,” Anekal police said. Hospital sources said Ramya’s family has been reluctant to claim the body, following which the post-mortem has been delayed. Her vaginal swabs have been sent for forensic examination to verify if she was raped.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Muniraju had proposed to Ramya while she was working in his travel agency in Peenya. However, she rejected his proposal , knowing that he had multiple affairs in the past. Incurring a huge loss, Muniraju had to close down the agency, said police.
He employed her again when he opened a mobile shop near Kamakshipalya. On April 22, Muniraju took Ramya to a mango grove in Mattigatte, near Anekal. “Muniraju is believed to have proposed to her again, but in vain. He then smashed her head with a blunt object and strangled her with a veil. Ramya fell unconscious. Assuming her to be dead, Muniraju returned home, wrote a suicide note and hanged himself from the ceiling,” said a police source.
