Karnataka all set to lower sword

Bengaluru: Karnataka were within touching distance of winning their opening league fixture against Mumbai in the Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 cricket tournament at the KSCA Alur stadium here on Monday.
Having amassed 559 in their first essay, the hosts had the opposition on the mat on the third day with Mumbai being precariously placed at 30/1 in their second innings when stumps were drawn.
The visitors didn’t enjoy a good run in the first innings as well as they depended on their middle and lower-order batsmen to shore up their total to 250 after resuming the day at 34/3. With a day to go, Mumbai still have a deficit of 279 runs.
Earlier, opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi's vigil at the crease in Mumbai’s first innings was ended by pacer Dhanush Gowda (4/37). Harsha Salunkhe (36) and Nutan (85) then defied the Karnataka bowlers with their 85-run stand for the fifth wicket. Once Manan Bhatt (56) was adjudged leg before off Dhanush, the other batters did not last long, with Aaditya Nair (2/49) claiming the last two wickets off consecutive deliveries. Spinner Mohsin Khan claimed two wickets.
