Karnatak Varsity strike called off

HARWAD: The Karnatak University (KU) bandh that was announced by students and was to begin on Tuesday in protest against the attack on two researchers, was called off after an assurance was given by the vice-chancellor, A.M. Pathan, that action would be taken against the guilty.

harwad: the karnatak university (ku) bandh that was announced by students and was to begin on tuesday in protest against the attack on two researchers, was called off after an assurance was given by the vice-chancellor, a.m. pathan, that action would be taken against the guilty. pathan held a discussion with the dalit student leaders of the university regarding the violence in the campus. meanwhile, the three-member-committee constituted by the vice-chancellor to conduct an enquiry and submit a report on the incident, has already started work. the committee is headed by prof nandan, who is also a syndicate member of the university. the other two are prof r.hegde, dean student welfare, former judge acharya and present legal advisor of the university. pathan said that the enquiry committee would submit its report and based on that action would be initiated. it may be recalled here that two research scholars, ravi naik and vinod naik, were seriously injured when a gang entered the hostel and attacked them. police had rounded up mahantesh udapudi and santosh krishnapura on monday, in connection with the incident. mahantesh is in judicial custody and krishnapura has been released on bail.
