JD factions say CRA order can't be implemented

BANGALORE: Both the factions of the Janata Dal on Monday said the four reservoirs in the Cauvery basin would dry up if Karnataka implemented the Cauvery River Authority (CRA), directive to release 0.8 tmcft water to Tamil Nadu every day.
Stating that the party would extend support to the ongoing agitation including the proposed Bangalore bandh on September 12 against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu as the CRA compromise formula was totally unacceptable, JDS president Siddaramaiah and JDU leader P.G.R.Sindhia said the live storage in the four reservoirs in the Cauvery basin had only 42 tmcft. ``But releasing 0.8tmcft everyday till October end will require 46 tmcft. Why has the Chief Minister over-obliged Tamil Nadu? It is ridiculous,'''' Sindhia said.
Siddaramaiah who ridiculed Krishna for projecting the CRA''s formula as an achievement to Karnataka said the government had failed to explain the ground realities to the Supreme Court.
JDU state president C. Byre Gowda said Tamil Nadu normally receives the North-East monsoon during September and October whereas there was no chance of monsoon for Karnataka this year.
