BANGALORE: Starting Wednesday, it's a strict `no plastic' for residents of Jayanagar. The three-month innovative people's campaign of a `plastic-free Jayanagar' is an attempt to rid the environment of its excess use.
"Plastic is one of the greatest hazards to the environment. Today, plastic has become an inseparable part of life. This must change. We have been trying this for quite sometime now.

I am happy, the people of Jayanagar have joined this campaign. Together, we will try to bring about a change,'' MLA B N Vijayakumar told TOI.
Though it's planned as a year-long campaign, responses in the first three months will decide how long it will run. Volunteers from Jayanagar will meet at the MLA's office on Wednesday to discuss the action on-ground. This includes NGOs, corporators, RWAs and also local civic authorities.
Split into groups, the teams will go to schools, colleges, public institutions and government offices in Jayanagar. They will also visit residential and commercial establishments to create awareness on the environmental hazards of using plastic.
