Jamari fancied to land Derby spoils

Bengaluru: It will be a colourful Republic Day at the Bangalore Turf Club, which hosts the Bangalore Derby, the richest winter derby with a whopping stake amount of Rs 1.7 crore with the winner taking home a sum of Rs 83 lakh. Three champion colts and seven well-bred fillies will come under the starter’s flag for the 2400-metre event.
The Pesi Shroff-trained Jamari, having won six races in her career and who has never lost a race in Bangalore with three classics under her belt including the Bangalore Summer Derby, will be head and shoulders above the rest for the premier event of the season.
The main threat to Jamari, with leading pro Trevor Patel to guide the fortunes, will emanate from the Suleiman Attaollahi-trained Tehani, to be ridden by Suraj Narredu, and Fast Pace (Neeraj Rawal astride), from the stables of Prithviraj. The former, having finished twice behind Jamari in her last two starts, holds the edge and is likely to run Jamari close.
Madras import Something Royal, — from trainer Sebastian’s yard and to be ridden by Pradeep Chouhan — who won the South India Oaks impressively in her last essay can add pep to the finish. Sun Flare, competing in the lower division of the Totalizator Cup, is considered as the day’s best betting proposition. First race at 1.30pm.
