bangalore: after delivering two products in just two years of its existence, ishoni networks india, a bangalore-based product development company addressing the broadband market, has embarked on the second level of r&d. it includes undertaking semi-marketing activities in india, adding new features to its existing products and offering support services to its global customers.
the prakash bhalerao-promoted company has already signed up four customers for its broadband solutions for integrated access devices (iads). a silicon valley icon and a serial entrepreneur, bhalerao hit headlines recently for selling his yet another broadband outfit called amber networks to the communications giant nokia for a mindboggling $421 million. based on a single chip, iads deliver voice, video and data capabilities at a faster rate. ishoni's recently introduced products in its family of gateway-on-a-chip solutions are designed specifically to give voice-over-broadband and voice-over-ip device manufacturers a critical time-to-market advantage and significant development cost savings. to steer the new initiatives in india, ishoni has appointed a silicon valley veteran vivek mansingh as managing director of the company's indian operations. he reports to bhalerao, chairman of ishoni who is based at the company's headquarters in california. meanwhile, the current country head of ishoni, satish ts has chosen to relocate to the us and will be playing key role in the company's marketing activities. prior to joining ishoni, mansingh was managing director of india operations at jasmine networks, a optical networks company. he previously worked as vp at aavid, where he launched the company's santa-clara-based atti subsidiary and established it as a leading design services company for electronics, computer and telecom systems. ``now, this is an exciting phase at ishoni, when you work with the customers. our mandate is to help the communications equipment manufacturers to build products and introduce the product in the market as soon as possible,'' mansingh said. the company is also adding additional software blocks like routing and security-related functionalities into the existing products. `our goal now is to develop second level of products. ``build as many functional blocks into the silicon so that customers can integrate these into the product,'' he added. meanwhile, ishoni has formed an alliance with the us-based wind river systems to offer its customers a flexible, cost-effective broad device platform by packaging ishoni's broadband engine with wind river's vxworks embedded software development tools.
