Is ‘Zombie Drug’ circulating in Bengaluru? Viral video raises questions, cops respond

BENGALURU: A viral video circulating on social media platforms, including Instagram, purportedly showing a man under the influence of a "zombie drug" has been debunked by city police. Authorities clarified that the man in the video was not on any drugs.

The video sparked widespread concern, with many viewers claiming the individual appeared affected by dangerous substances. Responding promptly, personnel from Bagalur police station traced the man near an institute in Yelahanka within hours of the video surfacing and subjected him to a medical test.

Police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh confirmed that medical reports found no narcotic or psychotropic substances in the man featured in the video. Doctors found that he was suffering from arthritis and sinusitis, and that his disoriented behaviour was the result of prescribed pain medication taken along with alcohol.



Singh urged the public not to share unverified or misleading content on social media, warning that strict action will be taken against those spreading false information. He added that anyone who encounters suspicious content should first report it to the police.

Actor Duniya Vijay shared the video on his Facebook account, noting that his movie Bheema had raised awareness about ganja and Tydol tablets. He mentioned reports of a new "zombie drug" allegedly reaching Bengaluru, urging youth to stay cautious and parents to remain vigilant.

He also requested the police to clarify the claims and appealed to the public to report any similar incidents.
