IPS

officer P Ravindranath said he submitted his resignation letter to the chief secretary on Tuesday.
Ravindranath claimed he was pained by the apathy shown towards his request to set up a Protection Cell as per rule 8 of SC&ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995. “Further, I was prematurely transferred without any public interest. It was just to harass me since I have taken legal action against people involved in the fake caste certificate issue,” he said in his letter.
Ravindranath was made director general of police (training) on May 4 after he was transferred from Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE).
Home minister Araga Jnanendra said: “I enquired with senior officials, including the director general and inspector general of police (DG&IGP), and they said they haven’t received any resignation (letter). The chief secretary, who is New Delhi, also hasn’t received it. So there is no official resignation. The government will take a call when the authorities receive it.”
Ravindranath’s resignation on Tuesday was his fourth since 2008; he withdrew them thrice earlier. A 1989- batch IPS officer, he quit on October 28, 2020 after batchmate T Suneel Kumar was promoted to the rank of director general of police (DGP) just before the latter’s retirement.
In 2014, Ravindranath made headlines when he was accused of clicking pictures of a woman in a coffee shop in Bengaluru. A case was also registered. Accusing then police commissioner

Raghavendra Audradkar

of trying to implicate him, he submitted his resignation letter and later withdrew it. The case was also withdrawn later.
In 2008, Ravindranath, then inspector general of police, stepped down alleging high-handedness of his senior, BE Umapathy. He alleged Umapathy had rejected his leave applicatio. He withdrew the letter later.
