bangalore: police commissioner h.t. sangliana on thursday suspended banashankari inspector chandramohan on charges of corruption, dereliction of duty and letting offenders escape. the suspension comes after a thorough inquiry by the joint commissioner of police b.jeevan kumar gaonkar into the charges against chandramohan. on april 14, chandramohan caught 16 people on charges of gambling, brought them to the police station and set them free after a collecting a hefty bribe.

no case was registered. another allegation against him is that he misbehaved with a woman complainant after taking a bribe from her. the woman is said to have recorded the conversation that took place between her and the inspector and handed over the cassette to senior police officers. following this, senior officers dcp (south) t. sunil kumar and joint commissioner of police gaonkar held an inquiry and forwarded a report to the police commissioner. on friday, he was placed under suspension for not registering a case, accepting bribes and neglecting his work. according to police records, chandramohan, brother of a late congress mla has been suspended a couple of times in the past. he was once trapped while accepting a bribe.
