BMRCL’s innovative plan to tackle congestion

Key corridors identified for the project

The 37km stretch will connect JP Nagar 4th Phase to Hebbal and Hosahalli to Kadabagere. These are among Bengaluru’s busiest routes, linking residential, commercial, and transit hubs. Massive investment planned for construction

BMRCL has estimated a total project cost of Rs 9,692 crore, which includes ₹3,023 crore for land acquisition. The road flyover component alone will cost about ₹261 crore per km. Feasibility report and design details

Hyderabad-based Aarvee Engineering Consultants was assigned to prepare the feasibility and detailed project report. The structure will consist of four lanes — two each way — with multiple ramps for smooth entry and exit. A step towards long-term decongestion

Learning from previous projects

Traffic and pedestrian flow challenges

Studies revealed that the Hebbal junction alone sees over 5,600 pedestrians per hour, while vehicle density often crosses 10,000 passenger car units (PCUs) per hour. Boost to airport connectivity

Integration with Namma Metro’s Phase III

This double-decker project is part of the ₹15,611 crore Namma Metro Phase III expansion plan, covering 45km of new lines. The Centre approved the Orange Line in August 2024, but the state’s decision to add the double-decker feature delayed tenders. Now, Karnataka will bear the cost of the flyover segment.
