BENGALURU: Infosys has created what can be described as an internal open source platform that all employees can benefit from. The idea is to give employees open codes to access, and which the company hopes will also result in new businesses being created.

Called Code Store, it hosts reusable components, tools, utilities, accelerators, bots, and knowledge assets. Coders will also contribute to the store anything new that they create during the course of their work, unless it involves intellectual property (IP) rights.

“The reusable components in Code Store act as blocks to build higher order assets that Infosys could potentially monetise as larger platforms, products, and solutions. This helps in accelerated development and rapid innovation. Some of our flagship platforms like Infosys DevSecOps Platform are developed using such inner source and open-source building blocks. These higher order assets find their way to the next environment as they mature to the Service Store and eventually to the Infosys Marketplace,” Rafee Tarafdar, CTO at Infosys told TOI. Teams are encouraged to submit what they create keeping the IP aspects in mind, Tarafdar added.

Individuals can also put up any of their individual projects, apart from the ones they are already working on officially. Code Store is integrated with Infosys’ systems, and based on the nature of a project – the technology, domain etc – users are recommended assets from the store for their projects.

Users can also specify their interests – like cloud, security, Java – in Code Store, so that they discover existing as well as new assets based on these interests, Tarafdar said. The platform will also make recommendations based on the search and browsing history of the coder.
