If BJP wins Lok Sabha polls, it will ban our guarantee schemes: DKS

BENGALURU: Deputy chief minister and state Congress president DK Shivakumar said the poll guarantees which his government has implemented in Karnataka and which has become an example for all other states to emulate, has rattled BJP and that the Centre will bring in laws to ban them if Narendra Modi returns to the PM’s office in 2024.

Speaking at an event to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Shivakumar said: “Our poll guarantees have become an example for the entire country. We need to remind people that if BJP comes back to power at the Centre, then it will try to bring in laws to ban our guarantees.”

Shivakumar said that although BJP had opposed the schemes claiming it will drain the state exchequer and that it was “revadi culture”, it was promising similar schemes in pollbound states. “Now, we need to remind people that even BJP is rushing to promise voters the same sort of guarantees in states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan,” he said.

Shivakumar said the party has decided to form a committee of former MPs and other Congress functionaries to conduct outreach programmes from November 28, Congress party establishment day, to take stock of the guarantees.

“Our party cadre will go door-to-door across the state and meet beneficiaries to understand the impact of the poll guarantees,” said the KPCC chief. “We need to take advice, suggestions and complaints, if any, to ensure the guarantees reach people more effectively.”
