If allowed, I’ll present two more budgets: Siddaramaiah
Mysuru/Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah said Saturday that he is willing to present two more budgets if his party leadership permits, indicating his intention to complete the full five-year term of the govt. His remarks come amid speculation in political circles about a possible CM change in the state after the budget session of the legislature.
Asked whether he would present two more budgets to take his tally to 19, Siddaramaiah said: "Yes, I will present them. Ultimately, the high command has to make a decision. If they ask me to step aside, I will. If they ask me to continue, I will," the CM added.Meanwhile, DCM DK Shivakumar is preparing to step up political outreach. He has invited Congress MLAs and MLCs for a dinner meeting on March 10 to mark six years since he assumed office as KPCC president.Tensions between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have resurfaced in recent months amid the CM change buzz. The two have been seen as the main power centres in the state Congress since the party returned to power in 2023. While Siddaramaiah was chosen as chief minister, Shivakumar was appointed deputy chief minister.Since Nov last year, some senior MLAs have raised the possibility of a CM transition midway through the govt's term. Shivakumar's name has often been mentioned as a potential successor. At the same time, there has been discussions on the high command considering a dalit leader for the top post, with names such as Mallikarjun Kharge and G Parameshwara being mentioned.Despite the speculation, Siddaramaiah has repeatedly said he will abide by the high command's decision, while Shivakumar has said he will wait for his chance.
