BANGALORE: Continuing his tirade, senior Congress MP C K Jaffer Sharief on Tuesday stated that his criticism of the state government was only aimed at highlighting problems affecting people.
"There is a hue and cry whenever I criticise the government. I do not make remarks for publicity or for the sake of glamour attached to it. I have to voice people''s concern as their representative," Sharief said addressing a conference of the National Commission for Minorities here.
Calling himself an "healthy critic", the former Union minister, who arrived at the conference after chief minister S M Krishna left, pointed out that he derived the strength to criticise from the late Indira Gandhi, the former prime minister.
"I was her greatest critic. But she took it in a sportive spirit," he contended.
Home minister Mallikarjuna Kharge, public works minister Dharam Singh, housing minister Qamarul Islam, SSI minister R. Roshan Baig, housing minister C R Sagir Ahmed, civil aviation minister T John, S&T minister Nafees Fazal and welfare and wakf minister M L Ustad were present at the conference.
Referring to them, Sharief said his remarks might embarrass the ministers and added: "In fact, my objective is to highlight people''s problems and ensure that ministers raise them in the Cabinet," Sharief contended.
On welfare of minorities, he challenged the Centre and state government to compulsorily implement the recommendations made by Minorities Commission.
"Why should these Commissions be mere recommending bodies? If the government is concerned about Minorities, the recommendations should be implemented without any delay," he demanded.
