Husband alleges bid to harmKGF MLA’s poll prospects

Bengaluru: Sitting KGF MLA Roopakala M’s husband has filed a criminal complaint against unknown miscreants for allegedly recording an audio in his name to undermine his wife’s poll prospects.Roopakala is seeking re-election from KGF on a Congress ticket. Police registered a case based on the complaint by Shashidhar JE, director, Karnataka assembly secretariat, and husband of Roopakala.Shashidhar told police his friend forwarded him an audio clip and asked if it was genuine. He heard the clip, in which a person claiming to be Shashidhar requests people to defeat Roopakala. “I did not speak like this with anyone. Someone in their bid to harm my wife’s political growth has created this fake clip,” Shashidhar claimed.Police registered a case under IPC sections 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 171G (false statement in connection with election), 465 (punishment for forgery), and 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation). tnn
