BANGALORE: Home-alone woman Suvarnamma, 65, was murdered in her house at Vidyagiri Layout in Chandra Layout police station limits. She was strangled with her saree.
Police suspect the murder took place between 11am and 1pm. The incident came to light after her daughter-in-law returned from work in the evening. The murderer took away four gold bangles, four rings and two chains, all worth over Rs 2 lakh.
Joint commissioner of police Alok Kumar said it was too early to ascertain if the murderer was known to the victim.
"The house is well protected and there is a grill as well as wooden door. There was no forcible opening of the door. Inside, there were signs of some resistance as Suvarnamma's bangles were broken. Relatives say Suvarnamma never allowed anyone in without ascertaining their identity. It could be either someone she knew or someone who came in guise of repairing something in the house,'' he said.
Suvarnamma's retired husband worked in a godown of a biscuit factory on Mysore Road. Their son Prabhuraj works as a supervisor in a construction site at Devanahalli and daughter-in-law Manju works in a private company near Kengeri.
