High chances of private colleges sharing the seats with government
BENGALURU: Good news for students. Private colleges may give in and allow CET students to get admitted in their institutions.
While it is not clear what resulted in the turnaround for the private medical/dental colleges, which last month told the government that they will not share seats with the governement as the consensual agreement signed on seat-sharing is invalid after NEET came into effect, sources told TOI that there are they were ready to share seats with the government for this year. "However our association will take a final decision."
Interestingly, the first move came from colleges located outside Bengaluru after the government is said to have offered an additional five percent increase in the NRI quota. Currently, the quota is 15%, which may be increased to 20%. "Yet another reason was private colleges not wanting to antoganise the government and get the students’ wrath’’ said sources,
Few days ago, higher education minister said that he will sort out the issue of seat sharing with private colleges by holding a meeting with CM. "Now the issue may not go to the CM. It will be sorted out at the minister’s level," sources said.
On May 30, COmedk and the Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation told the government that the consensual agreement signed with the government was not binding on them to share the MBBS/BDS seats.
Meeting on RS poll day too
What shocked everyone was the hurriedly convened meeting of officials that Law Minister T B Jayachandra and medical education minister Sharan Prakash Patil on Saturday even as the Rajya Sabha counting was in full progress in Vidhana Soudha. The meeting which was also held in the same building saw both the ministers seriously deliberating the CET seat sharing crisis before they engaged themselves in the Rajya Sabha counting.

Great news! Kudos to Law Minister T B Jayachandran and medical education minister Sharan Prakash Patil as they really care for state students. Hope deemed colleges also share more seats (% on their total seats rather than on extended seats) with Government now. Finally, students can breathe easy now. However, we all are waiting for the official announcement of medical seat matrix eagerly. Thanks again.Read allPost comment
